If you’re considering laser vision correction, you will meet with our Castleton Corners Eye Doctor at Focus Vision Care, Jyotsna Jain, O.D., for a comprehensive dilated exam. This laser vision correction exam is to determine the safest procedure for each individual eye. Each eye is measured and evaluated with various instruments that provide detailed information about the eye’s optics and health. The exam will also determine your degree of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. This specialized eye exam performed by our Castleton Corners optometrist will also analyze the surface of your eye (cornea) and measure the corneal thickness and pupil size to make sure your eyes are healthy and that you are a suitable candidate. Your cornea will be digitally photographed, and a computer will map your eyes. Dr. Jain will use this map to plan your surgery for the most precise results possible, explain the surgical procedure from start to finish and answers any questions you may have prior to surgery. Ultimately, the decision to have laser vision correction surgery is one only you can make but it will reduce your dependence on corrective lenses and enhance your quality of life.
During surface laser vision correction, the laser reshapes the surface of the cornea after the outer layers of cells of the cornea are removed. A bandage contact lens is then inserted on the eye for comfort. New layers of cells grow back over the treated area usually in three to seven days and most patients return to work in 1 week. Some patients have reported feeling a bit of pressure during the procedure but no pain. The laser vision correction surgery takes approximately 90 minutes and you will need to arrange for a ride home.
